The Tale Of The Teddy Bear

If you go down to the woods today…

It’s a little known fact that the Teddy Bear we all know and love today was invented and named after the 26th President of the USA, Theodore Roosevelt. On a hunting trip in Mississippi on 14th November 1902, President Roosevelt refused to shoot a bear cub whilst hunting, as it had been tied up by one of his assistants. He viewed this as unsportsmanlike, and the story soon reached national news.

On November 16th 1902, political cartoonist Clifford Berryman published a cartoon in the Washington Post that took a humorous jab at the event. A candy shop owner called Morris Michtom saw the cartoon, and it inspired him to create a stuffed bear. He and his wife Rose had made stuffed animals in the past, but he dedicated this one to President Roosevelt and called it ‘Teddy’s Bear’. He obtained permission from the President to use his name and began mass-producing the bear immediately. It became so popular that he eventually founded the Ideal Toy Company in 1907.

Teddy Bears make a great gift for any occasion. From birthdays to Christmas and even Halloween and graduation, Teddy Bears have been given as gifts since people first fell in love with them in 1902. The Teddy Bear has truly stood the test of time.

Sometimes you will see a Teddy Bear, and you’ll just know. You can see their personality and character in their face – the bear has chosen you! They are a companion, a household mascot and a comforting friend when we need someone to talk to - Teddy Bears make great listeners! Floriography 101: Gratitude
Floriography 101: Gratitude

September 21, 2020

Flowers have been used for centuries as a way of showing how we feel. In this post, we’ll be focusing on gratitude. Gratitude is such a positive emotion, but it can sometimes be overlooked. You can be grateful to others for a whole range of different things, or even grateful to yourself for having a great week (self-care is very important!). It’s fair to say that 2020 really hasn’t panned out how we expected. But we’d like to take the opportunity to thank you, our customers and friends, for being so supportive during these unusual times. We are so grateful for your continued loyalty and we are so thankful to be sharing our passion with you again.
